Over the 4th of July weekend, the forecast called for big surf brought on by a storm that had been churning since late June in the South Pacific. Surfline has a good article and some other photos on it here. I was on my way home and decided to top by Aliso Creek to see how things were looking and snapped a couple of pix of a few crunchy waves and a couple of buttery ones. Here are the pix:
A nice white crunchy wave ready to gobble that adventurer up

I loved the articulation of the lip on this wave; something very Edo-era Japanese about it

This guy was having a blast; he had the place all to himself… get it kid!

Be sure to click this one for the full effect of the emerald slab about to lay down on that guy:

After seeing the waves at Aliso Creek, I had to go see what the Wedge in Newport Beach was doing… that’s my next post… enjoy…

Jesse, we were there in the afternoon when a big wave came in and soaked us on the beach…almost took out one of my kids.

Wow! That’s scary! Those waves were humongous that day… I was afraid for the people who were getting too close to the edge at times… I’ve been in surf much smaller and it has been life-or-death… my hat’s off to the mad dogs who go out in that stuff…
I’m stoked you got to go see the surf though; that’s great! What a spectacle…
Thanks for leaving a comment!
These waves remind me of Hawaii!
@ Nancy – Yeah, the green one does for sure… look at that big old slab of water!
