Dana Point’s Tall Ships Festival

We were out the other night in Laguna Beach with the kids and were strolling about when a poster for the Tall Ships Festival in Dana Point caught my eye. I had never been and a few weeks earlier a past client had mentioned that we should get our families together and go check it out so I double backed to the poster to see when the Festival was; to mixed chagrin and delight, I saw that it was that night! Chagrin because I felt bad that I had let the date slip with my client, but in my defense, I had just got back from a two-week long trip to France, and my day-to-day calendar had been replaced with the ‘get-over-the-jet-lag-great-wine-food-cheese-and-get-back-to-work’ calendar… delight because the evening was early and we felt like staying out (remember, I’ve got three kids under the age of 6 – “staying out” means getting in before 8:30PM).

Here are a few photos:

The ships come south from Laguna Beach and then cut back north into the harbor channel; the view was blocked by the big jetty, but you could still see them cruising in…

This guy had the right idea for sure – he had great views of the parading ships and the jetty all to himself… I think I’ll join him next year…

In all, it was a nice evening… parking was easy, the parks were clean, the temps were warm, the people friendly… I would go again…
